Whitehall is a certified Maryland Green School, which means we foster environmental literacy, encourage sustainability, and empower students to reduce their and the school’s environmental impact. Parents are a big part of Whitehall’s sustainability practices. Some volunteer opportunities includes: Walk to School “Bus” Leaders – The first Friday of the month walkers are encouraggreen school 2ed to walk with a Whitehall parent or guardian to school and we arrange a few routes with stops in the nearby neighborhoods Lunchroom Recycling Supervisors encourage students to recycle during lunch Paper Recycling Supervisors help students empty bins into the outdoor recycling dumpster Compost Chief sets up and helps students maintain our tumbling composter Outdoor classroom grant writers Gardeners teach gardening to students and help take care of Whitehall’s gardens Teacher helper set up field trips or environmental speakers.
